I am officially declaring 2025 to be the year of the spirit.

While there have been a couple of brands building up this space for the last few years, 2025 seems to be the most attention this sub category has even recieved.

Artet, Pamos, & MXXN get the credit as some of the first movers, as both originally launched spirits in the California recreational cannabis markets.

But as the hemp market exploded over the last few years, a lot more players have entered the space.

In my opinion, Nowadays gets the real credit for popularizing this category, especially with a strong TikTok presence that has made them extremely well known among the younger generations.

Every year more brands are entering the space, with the most recent notable mentions being:

• BRĒZ Cannabis & Mushroom Infused Spirit

• Willie’s Remedy THC Spirit

• Cann Spritz

I think there are two very interesting things about this category.

1) Consumers don’t care about price, they care about effect.

The first is that despite being a relatively high price compared to alcohol, these bottles are flying off the shelves

I did math, and the average retail price of a bottle is $50.49, with the median price being $47.99. 

This means most consumers are paying around $50 per bottle, which is a lot when an equivalent bottle of liquor usually costs between $10-$20.

Even with a 2 - 5x price multiple, consumers still love this alternative as it provides a powerful effect with much less short term consequences.

As companies get larger and economies of scale get better, I’m confident that this price point will come down overtime. It’s clear that the potential for THC spirits is nothing to scoff at.

2) THC spirits make it easy for consumers to see cannabis drinks as a true 1:1 replacement for alcohol.

The second interesting thing about this category is that I believe it will help people understand this category and its adjacency to alcohol more than any other existing products

When you are staring at an aisle filled with cans of all different flavors & dosages, it can be confusing and overwhelming. You don’t want to sink your money into something that is too weak, too strong, or doesn’t taste good.

A spirit kind of fixes all of these problems, because you can very easily choose your dose and move on up without consuming a ton of liquid, and you can combine it with other things to make the flavor you desire.

Its physical appearance helps too: When the hemp beverage aisle starts morphing into a mix of cans, bottles, and shots it becomes more familiar and inviting to novice consumers.

As much as many hemp beverage brands position themselves as the anti-alcohol savior, the best comparison we have to this product is alcohol.

The more our products start to resemble the form factor & ritual of alcohol, the more likely people are to adopt it into their everyday lives.
