Are cannabevs "better for you?" This study from BRĒZ has some convincing evidence...
As cannabis beverages become increasingly popular, there’s been a question on everyones mind:
Are they actually less harmful, and potentially better for you than alcohol?
If you’ve read some of my previous articles, you know that I’ve spoken about this before.
Given the available research at the time, I’ve only been able to compare general cannabis consumption vs alcohol consumption, and even that yielded convincing evidence that cannabis is less harmful for humans and society than alcohol.
But now we can do a lot less guessing.
BRĒZ — founded by Aaron Nosbisch — commissioned a third party clinical study to test whether its flagship product, the Lemon Elderflower Social Tonic, improved well being, reduced alcohol dependency, and enhanced everyday life. The trial included 142 participants.
This was done with MoreBetter which is a real-world evidence CRO. Tyler Dautrich & Kevin Provost conducted the study, and Chief Science Officer of BRĒZ Preston Campbell did the data summary and analysis.
The method used:
Validated psycoholigal assessments
Daily tracking of alcohol consumption, stress, sleep, pain, and mood
7 days without BRĒZ —> 14 days with BRĒZ —> Final assessment on day 22
The results were astonishing:
73.1 reduction in alcohol consumption
67.3% reported reduced stress
56.7% imprvoed mood and 54.8% better sleep quality
40% decrese in anxiety symptoms
83.7% preferred BRĒZ over alcohol for health and social saftey
How BRĒZ Works: A Synergistic Dose of THC, CBD, & Lion’s Mane

BRĒZ uses a combination of three ingredients that are all backed by peer review research.
THC - Studies have show a microdose of THC to reverse cognitive decline & enhance neural plasticity without intoxication, and that microdosing can improve memory and reduce anxiety within minutes.
CBD - This minor cannabinoid balances THC’s effects by preventing anxiety & paranoia. It’s also clinically proven to reduce social anxiety and stress.
Lion’s Mane - A functional mushroom known for it’s brain boosting properties, this fungi stimulates nerve growth factor which improves cognitive function and focus. Studies have also confirmed reports of enhanced clarity and reduced mental fog,
BRĒZ says that the combination of these ingredients creates a unique effect that is different from any other cannabis beverage.
During the study, a unique Theta wave signature was observed when compared to cannabis-only beverages. Theta wave signatures are a way of measuring and interpreting brain activity.
BRĒZ also says that lion’s Mane helps to reduce anxiety before the cannabis takes effect, making the whole experience more pleasant and enjoyable when compared to beverages with just cannabis in them.
Beyond the Lab
After the study concluded, the participated were surveyed after 90+ days of consistent BRĒZ use:
96% consumed BRĒZ 4-6 weekly, and 84% consumed it daily
70% felt their overall health improved
67% reported better digestion, & 56% had sustain energy
44% experienced sharper focus
My Thoughts

Now as you probably know already — but if you don’t — I am a current employee of BRĒZ.
However, I don’t think that changes my reaction to this study that much.
These results show incredible promise for those looking to replace alcohol with an efficacious alternative.
The first takeaway I had is that alternatives like BRĒZ can give people the same feeling without sacrificing the experience and enjoyment they are looking for.
Before cannabis beverages, many alcohol alternatives were considered to be duds. Many didn’t taste great, but even the ones that did, they never provided much of an effect (if any). Sometimes they had adaptogens, but mostly they were just flavored juice or sparkling water meant to mimic that taste of alcohol.
Cannabis beverages have flipped this concept on its head as they provide both the familiar taste and a comparable buzz.
The second takeaway is that people generally saw a pretty significant improvement in quality of life. While alcohol will always have its place in social drinking, you can’t pretend that it hasn’t brought its fair share of negative consequences and externalities.
Cannabis beverages like BRĒZ have the potential to be a real tool for harm reduction because they seamless integrate into those same drinking moments, but without the short term negative health effects.
As brands, health institutions, and governments continue to invest in research, I’ll be curious to see whether more specific use cases like sleep, energy, creativity are proven to be enhance from the consumption of cannabis beverages, and more importantly, if they are really as powerful of a harm reduction tool as we think they might be.
